Instructions Flash Gun

MAKE SURE YOUR FLASH COTTON AND FLASH PAPER ARE COMPLETELY DRY BEFORE PROCEEDING. IT NORMALLY TAKES SEVERAL DAYS TO DRY FLASH COTTON AND PAPER. LEAVING THEM OUTSIDE ON A WARM DAY IS THE FASTEST METHOD. WET COTTON CAN SHORT OUT THE GLO PLUG, AND THE SLIGHTEST HINT OF MOISTURE WILL CAUSE THE COTTON AND/OR PAPER TO FIRE IMPROPERLY. IT MAY FEEL REASONABLY DRY TO THE TOUCH AND STILL BE TOO DAMP (ANY HINT OF COOLNESS WHEN HELD IN THE HAND INDICATES MOISTURE).

THE GLO PLUG MUST BE SCREWED IN TIGHTLY. IF IT COMES LOOSE EVEN SLIGHTLY, IT WILL NOT MAKE A GOOD CONNECTION WITH THE BATTERY AND WILL NOT FUNCTION.

Place the 'AA' battery in the unit as shown. Use Energizer or Duracell only.
Other brands will not function well.

At the end of the barrel is a "glo-Plug". The glo plug acts as a heat source for the ignition of the flash cotton and paper. To test the plug, look down the barrel and press the button. Hold it down for a few seconds. If the plug works, it will light up as shown on the right, if not, it will be dark as shown on the left. The light it gives off is not very bright, so make sure you are not in the bright light when you test it. If the light does not come on after a few seconds, you may have a faulty battery or a disconnected wire. The glo plug does not last forever, and will need replacing after about 20 - 30 shots.

CAUTION: You should remove the battery before continuing so you don't accidentally fire the gun during the loading process.

Take a tiny bit of dry cotton, fluff it out and flatten it.

Insert it so that it ends up touching the glo plug at the very bottom of the barrel. You can use the eraser end of a pensil to push it down, but do so GENTLY, as you can easily damage the glo plug if you use force. Gently press the cotton to the bottom without pushing any more than needed.

Make a ball of flash paper, using either a 2" x 3" piece, or a 3" x 4" piece of flash paper. Push the paper all the way down into the barrel so that it is touching the cotton. If the paper stays in the barrel for a long time, it will expand and not shoot as far. Load it right before your performance if possible.

Put the battery back in the device. The flash gun conceals easily in the hand, and you can simply press the button when you are ready to fire.

Do not remove the wire connector unless you need to replace the glo plug.

The 1.5 volt glo plug can be unscrewed by hand (or by using a pair of pliers), and should be replaced every 20 - 30 shots.

Note: If you have an older unit that has stopped working, try replacing the wires and connections. Wires can become broken with age and rough handling.

DO NOT ever use anything but flash cotton and flash paper in this device. Using powders of any kind will endanger life and limb.
